about

I felt like the world needed a new drinking song. I started writing this piece WAY back in college about the cultural phenomenon to me that was watching people treat every mistake like it was a nonchalant learning opportunity, and it fascinated me. Then I realized, that's apparently what part of coming-of-age is all about. This is about making mistakes and coming back the next day to make a new one.
Recording this was far more fun than I anticipated. The chorus of drunken, shouty, rowdy people is myself and 2 other members of the band- do you know how much fun it is to just yell and sing out of tune in a recording booth like 8 times in a row and clap and make noise? A lot of fun. It's a lot of fun. This song was also s a good reason to play harmonica- something I learned out of love for Billy Joel and Blues Traveler.
This song was written with inspiration from the country and Irish drinking songs my grandfather listened to with me and the photo is my rendition of him. A man of many, many mistakes- and many drinks.

lyrics

Thursday morning nine a.m. and the sun is coming through
And the last thing you remember was a bottle of red
Well there were friendly faces only some of which you knew
But it didn’t matter after having a few ‘cause there was
One night of passion, there was one night of drunken pain
And there’s one day to make it better ‘til the next when we do it just the same
But for all the nights and days we have there’s only one time to be young
If we’re gonna do this up then now’s the time to have our fun
21 and ready for the world with a heart of gold
In the meantime why not settle for the stud with the magnetic hold
What bad can come of this if we say it’s all in fun, right?
I’m sure there’s a lesson learned I’m just not sure which one.
CHORUS
One day you’ll wake up and it’ll seem like such a waste
But the truth is there’s no one who has not been in this place
Let me tell you a secret one I’m wise enough to share
Without these days and nights good stories would be rare
CHORUS
